Sep. 27, 2010, St. Paul, Minn.- Marla Spivak, 55, is a recipient of the MacArthur Foundation’s “Genius” grant for her study of honey-bee health at the department of entomology at University of Minnesota. For the past 37 years, Spivak has been working with bees and studying bee breeding and the benefits of propolis resins that bees acquire while landing on various plant buds and use to build their hives. Spivak hopes that with more studies propolis may have human applications, studies have already shown that these resins are active against HIV. Story Here .
